This is a weekly behind the scenes photo post, showing little snippets from my week in the kitchen.
You never know what you may find…maybe a teaser of a future post, maybe a little nugget or idea, maybe just a little peek into my life and home.
Welcome to My Kitchen
This week was once again spent mostly at the cabin. It is tradition for us to spend the 4th of July up north at the cottage. The kids look forward to our traditions of watching fireworks over the lake, sitting by the campfire, watching the lake’s boat parade plus watching the local parade in town.
This trip started with my mother and grandmother joining us for the first part of the week and the hubby joining us for the weekend after his work week was complete.
After a couple of failed attempts of hauling eggs up north with us every trip, I decided I needed to find an egg source local to the cabin. On the way home from our trip last week, I spotted a nice Amish farm not too far out of town that I thought I would try out on our next visit. What I had not planned on was coming through at 7PM on a Monday night for the egg purchase. I hesitantly pulled in to the farm and was pleasantly surprised to find them welcoming and happy to do business even so late in the day as they were even still out working in the fields bailing hay.
Since Grandma was with us, of course I asked her to make noodles (recipe here). We cooked these in chicken broth and added in de-boned roasted chicken.
I also tried out my new-to-me bread maker from my Foodie Yard Sale Finds: Round 2. I’m happy to report that it worked wonderfully. I made a loaf of my Simple and Sweet Bread-maker Bread to go with our chicken and noodles.
Since I just got started with water kefir, guess what needed to tag along on our trip?…yes, my kefir grains. Here, I’m in the middle of processing the latest batch.
Pizza Friday is still pizza friday, even at the cottage. I also used my new to me bread machine to make my pizza dough (recipe here).
And finally, I was just in the mood for something chocolate, so the kids and I went to the local store, picked up come cocoa, and made some simple yummy fudgy brownies.
That concludes this week’s peek into my kitchen. Thanks for stopping by, please join me again soon.
