Friday nights in our house are most often Redbox movie nights, especially during the winter months. I love the big Redbox! Self service movies for just over a buck! And they recently added a box within a mile of our home. Add on the fact that they are always sending out free rental or $0.50 off promo codes…needless to say, we usually rent at least one movie a week.
Now, certainly movie night equals popcorn night!
Of course there is no prepackaged, microwave variety of popcorn in this house. No, even before we eliminated the “junk” from our pantry, we were a Whirley Pop Family. If your not familiar with the Whirley Pop, you often see it in stores, particularly near the holidays in a gift set. It is a covered pan with a wooden handle and a twirly, whirley thing on the bottom of it’s pan to stir the popcorn just like the movie theater poppers. Being the thrifty shopper that I am, I acquired mine at a yard sale of course.
I’ve forever been tweaking my popcorn recipe for years in order to get the yummiest concoction. I have just recently stumbled upon a new favorite loved by my popcorn connoisseur husband.
1-2 Tsp coconut oil (dependent on your taste)
1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
Himalayan pink salt
Just add the oil, butter and popcorn to the Whirley Popper, warm over medium heat, spinning the popper continually until the lid is pushed open from the over filled pan or the popping slows. Sprinkle with freshly ground Himalayan pink salt to taste.
Oh, so good! Give it a try for your next movie night.
